I have a fairly new tank and I only have 3 fish in it so far. One of them is a blue spotted watchman goby. I noticed today that he is hanging out alot towards the top of the tank. I have never seen a goby do this I have only ever seen them on the bottom or on rock, he is just chilling up there resting against teh glass. Any ideas. I have only had him a few days and he is eating I just don't know his behavrior yet so I am just being a littel paranoid.

Thanks
Christina

Hi Christina! A blue spotted watchman, huh? Thats so cool!! I've heard of them but never seen one upclose before. I'd love to see a picture of him if you can get one! :fun: I myself have a yellow watchman goby.

That does sound odd about his hangout spot. I haven't ever seen one do that either to be honest. I've had my goby a few weeks though and he does some pretty WEIRD stuff.

My guess is that if your goby is eating then that's really good! One of the problems with them is that they are so shy they are relectant to eat. So maybe this strange behavior is just normal. Does he swim around normally or burrow yet? If your water conditions are as they should be, he probably just enjoys being there and is still getting used to his new home. :)

I'm sure someone else on here with more knowledge on our types of gobies can give you a better explaination though.... :fish:

If he is eating, he must not e too stressed. A goby can exhibit some odd behavior, so don't worry to much as long as he looks healthy.

Cool thanks... I may just be a little paranoid. Yeah he is eating great, he even eats flake food. He has a spot behind one of my rocks and the other 2 fish don't go near him. I will try to get some pics and post them for you, he is pretty big too. a few inches.
It makes me feel better that they just act strange sometimes.

Oh how many times a day do you feed your guys and what are you feeding them? OUt of curiousity

Thats really good if your goby eats flake food! i think most gobies are rather picky. Mine eats frozen cubed food, table shrimp, and occausionally a crumbled up tubifex worm if the can push down the pieces. I have only had him for a month and he eats alright but I want to give him a better variety of food.

I was thinking of getting live brine shrimp. Mysid shrimp is supposedly better for them though because they're high in protein, fish like it, and it doesnt make them too finicky.

 Unfortunately my goby died this morning. Still not quite sure what happened. I called the pet store that I work at and he really had no idea but the store by me said that gobies just sometimes die. I only had him for about a week so it could have been anything.
I am going to wait a little while and maybe get another one b/c he was just too cool

Thanks anyway
Christina
