Hey, this might be a dumb question but does anyone know how to work out how many litres/gallons of water a tank will hold if you only have the measurements? In this example the measurements are 48" X 12" X 15". Ive always wondered how to do this, and ive tried searching the internet but i am having troubles with the keywords to type into google for working out things like this! Keep getting irrelevant pages come up! Quite irritating to say the least :grr:

Cheers Xander

I have a book that came with some meds and i worked mine out from that. Your tank is 29 gallons (UK) i know this as i have one the same size. Theres a convertor in the pinned topics but that just shows you US and UK gallons and Liters.

Thanks a lot for your help- a little less stressed out now lol. Thats a great website though, have just saved the link to go on it in future!

For anyone else who doesn't know here are the calculations on how to do it all:

Length x width x height = ? cm3

There are 1000cm3 to a litre

Now the bit i always get confused with...

There are 3.785 litres to a US gallo and...

There are 4.546 litres to a metric gallon.

so divide how many litres you have by which gallons you want to find out!

For volume and conversion calculations there is also:

http://www.fishlore.com/ConversionCalculator.htm

But this is probably not as good as the first one but handy if the other one is down though.

A good unit converter can be found at:

http://www.programming.de/

Click on the download button to veiw his programmes. Quite a few handy ones there, Unit Converter is what I use, World Time Clock comes in handy being in Australia as I am always in a different time zone from the larger countries.

Hope these help.
