I didn't get it though, I didn't want to risk it in the 20g.... Which is what I want to ask about. It was about 4", so pretty small, and cost £21.95, a pretty good price IMO. Obviously since I really want a delhezi for the 67g (when and if I get/find one), I want to get it ASAP because my only other option would be to wait until someone can get me one, but the only tanks I've got for it are the 20g, or the rigging up a large plastic container option. In the 20g are khulis, danios and swordtails. It's the khulis I'm worried about - Will they be eaten like the metaphorical spaghetti? Currently I've got a plastic container, about 15x15x12, or something like that. I've got more than enough filters, would that be a better plan for the time being? The time being is depending on several factors, but I can have him in the 48x12x15 as soon as it's set up and cloned. Note, even the x12x15 would only be temporary until I got and sorted out a 48x18x18.

Okies, already found that we'd have khuli spaghetti, so what size container would be best for.... a month at the very most? As I said, its about 4" ATM, I have a heater and mature filter, so no problems there.

1st, congrats on the find. 2nd, have you got a lid for said plastic container? birchirs are famous for their jumping abilities.

have you asked the LFS if they'd hold onto him for you while you get the 48x12x15 running? offer to pay a little extra, say 25 quid instead of the asking, if they seem hesitant. really, if you've got a matured filter, gravel, stand and a heater, that freebie tank of yours should be ready to go the instant you put all the stuff in it. a little 4" birchir isn't going to need a fully seeded substrate if he's all buy himself with an established filter.

Oh yeah, they all come with snug fiting lids, I'd just need to stab a few airholes in it. TBH I want it hanging around there as little time as possible, the conditions, shall we say, are a little unorthodox... It's going to be a little while until I can sort out the x12x15, I've still got to get a rack built for the other tanks, then get the desk reinforced.... But I should be able to get hold of a largeish plastic container easily.

check out your local hardware stores for modular wire shelving. i personally love this stuff because it's very strong and quickly disassembles for easy moving (a MAJOR plus for a college student). hopefully this link will take you to an example of what i'm talking about.

you can also find these types of shelves in various bedroom & kitchen and organization stores, but they're typically more expensive.

hey feeeeeeeeeeeshy,

great find.

I say the wee del will be fine in the 15x15x12 container mentioned above, as long as you check water stats are the ammount of food your going to be feeding him could polute a small tank quite quickly.

WOuld be better if you could find a large tub really, but to get the del home nice and safe the small one is fine!

I have a clear storage box which is about 22x14x14, try to aim for some this kind of size to house him a bit longer in there, if you need to hold back the 4fter set up.

Okely dokely, I'll have to nip into Wilkinsons and nab the largest container they've got. Shouldn't be a problem, they do more than enough... Furniature, I was thinking a thin layer of sand and some pvc pipe...? And food.... I can't keep frozen, so carnivore stick pellety things?

Sand or barebottom, being tubs i imagine there un even though so best put layer of sand, yer bit of pipe or chunk of bogwood for him to hide in.

you can use Hikari SInking Carnivore pellets, my litle del used to eat these, but you will need to get froozen foods for him so you can vary the diet.

We've got frozen prawns in the freezer, I've remembered, and I'll go and buy some other stuff for, um... Food Tech :shifty: I'm really hoping I can get there today, if not, I'll have to go after school sometime...

Remember that any container must be labled as food safe for humans as many plastics can leach toxic chemicals into the water. Really it would be best to wait till you have the new tank running or get rid of your current fish and put the bichir in that tank.

I use the brand of plastic containers I'd be getting as betta tanks, the oldest has been in use for /5 months and no ill effects thus far.

the Delhezi is in Arundel Aquatics is it? i see you are in pompey too, i saw that one the other day. very nice :)

if they dont keep it for you, let me know and you can have mine. he is a about 6"- 7" and fat. he is a bit big for my tank (36") and keeps eating the other fish even though they are generally bigger than bite size. im getting annoyed at regular carnage of my gold lipped mackerel.

Ooh, thanks, I'll bear that in mind  Yep, I didn't think they had any in the tank until dad said 'Is that what you're after?'...
