Then, I wouldn't get any small fish that could fit into their mouth then. I plan on getting an aquarium magazine some time in the near future.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking....
And I read that they can be pretty aggressive as well.....

I hope your barbs are fine with them! That kinda worries me long term.

Bettas and guppies usually fight because they mistake the guppies as bettas and all hell breaks loose. I hope that you can rehome the barbs and keep a species only tank, that would be best, as these fish sound not suited for other fish, species only sounds like the way to go.

I know that! That's why I used that term. Because that's what elephant noses are like with all fish!

Thought id let you know how its going *smiles*
Didnt relised they would be THAT big thought the ones we bought were 3inch (obviously young-ens)
but i have 2 that are about 6inches and one thats about 4/5 named them all, 2 big ones Tine and hick, and the baby it kee. (weird names .. but they are weird)

there fine, havents tried to jump out of the tank, we build half the tank to there specifications, sand lots of hiding places and almost like a wall of long plants there darting about the tank and the barbs are fine with them hehe, they hardly relise to be honest, there still playing about with eachother.
The elephant noses on the otherhand are ... curious? our big plec lays there, minding hes own business and them BAM! the E's one by one. dont know if its an accident or not but the swim up to him and swim away wackign there tail in hes face etc ... very amusing, i made sure to feed them at night and the babrs would be half asleep by the time the food comes and the elephants would be awake ready for the bloodworm, i made sure i put food one side for the barbs and whilst there distracted put the bloodworm in there plans and wood etc.
They seem alright.
I know im a newbie and all but ive never researched so hard on this fish than everbefore. i understand that there a hard species to look after etc but i have my experienced fish shop to help me out (as they always do) and you guys via zee internet haha.

Congrats For Your New Fish Day ....... It gets very exciting doesnt it when your tank is cycling but you have no fish in and you say to your self there will be fish in there soon !
But First you need to make sure its properly cycled , cleaned well , then when you get your fish you need to think about how many you get because if you get to many some pass away and it will be a waste of money won't it ?
soo first you will need about 15 fish in your tank but if your not getting that many fish to put in your aquarium tank just put about 10 in the tank or 9 because when it was my fish day i was over whellmed and happy that i was getting my new fishes and we got

1 elephant nose - we took it back because it wasnt looking well
3 dalmation fish - 2 males , 1 female
4 tiger loaches - we dont know the sex but 1 passed away unfortunatley
9 neons - 1 passed away so we have 8 now
2 sword tails - 2 males
and more

but you need to be really carefull that's why some of our fish passed away because there was so many fish in the tank at the time

when your tank is cycled , as long as its done properly you can FULLY stock it , so im led to believe
