I finally have babies!! :hyper: I had attempted spawning this pair before about a month or so ago, but the male's bubblenest wasn't big enough to hold all the eggs so they fell out, and then he was so busy trying to pick up the eggs that fell out that he didn't repair the bubblenest when it started popping and so all the eggs ended up on the floor of the tank. A few of the eggs hatched but for some reason they didn't make it.

Then I tried another pair, but because of the male's huge finnage, it was really hard for him to wrap around the female, and I only ended up with 2 fry, which also died for some reason. :/

But last week I tried pair number one again. The male built a very nicely sized bubblenest this time and blew more bubbles every chance he got the whole time he was in the spawn tank. ^_^ Both times he was super gentle with the female, and she is just a sweetie, so not a scratch on either one of them! :D They spawned last Tuesday, did everything "by the book" and the spawn went perfectly, resulting in (my guess) at least 200 eggs. The next day the eggs hatched, all but just a few, and this male was just the perfect daddy. I was planning on leaving him in with the fry, but...

I found out that I had to go away starting that Sunday, for a whole week. :X I took out daddy to keep the water clean, put a couple plants in there for infusoria, and had my mom feed the fry extremely finely chopped up frozen brine shrimp.

I ended up not staying the whole week, thank God, and got back home Wednesday, to only find about 25-30 still alive. :( I rushed to set up a BBS hatchery, and although about 5 more fry died before any had time to hatch, the next morning the remaining fry all had tummies all full and orange. :)

So I now have 20-25 little babies!! They're 10 days old, and seem to be about normal size. There are some light bodied ones and some darker ones. They're absolutely ADORABLE, you can so tell they're little bettas, hehe. I wish I could get pictures but my camera doesn't like tiny things so they just come out as little blurs. :/ Here are some pictures of the parents, though...

And yes, if you couldn't tell, they are Synnir's kids. :) I know the photos are old, too... I have newer ones on my laptop but my adaptor broke so I can't use it at the moment. :p

Lovely bettas, im sure the fry will turn out great!
Good luck rearing them, and keep us updated :good:

very nice! too bad your mom couldn't have saved more than 30, but 25 is a nice number to raise too. Hopefully you'll get some nice DTs out of that pair (if she carries DT genes which i think she probably does).

i was looking through the pics and was going to ask if they were synirr's spawn, then read your comment about it lol. something about synirr's kids make them really easily recognizable for some reason!

I was thinking the exact thing... :p
Good luck with the spawn... :)

Thanks for the good luck wishes everyone! :D And yah, you can always spot Synirr's guys... they're little cuties!

Haha yeah! I saw this and was just sure that was one of my females, lol

Congrats on the spawn! Sounds like you got some cambodians out of them (the light-bodied ones), that should be interesting

Nice job on the spawning :D ! BTW Synirr what kind of betta is Leviathan? That is one of the coolest looking fish I have ever seen.
