It seems not of my LFS have heard of bogwood... sounds sad. I don't wanna buy it online and cannot find it anywhere. If there another name for it? I have seen many hides for aquariams made from Javawood (very hard wood)... will my bulldog pleco and gold stripe eat Javawood or GrapeVine? I have a piece of drift wood in there (not waterlogged) so 2 rocks are holding it down in the tank.

Mopani is a type of wood and driftwood is just the generic name. There are a lot of types of driftwood and from all over the world. You could probably find some good stuff in the woods but it needs to be washed thoroughly and probably boiled and then soaked for a few months. Can your LFS order some wood for you? Mopani is usually the best stuff but hardly the only choice.

I've been usuign grapevine for one tank, while I have a mix of mopani and bog wood in my others, I've noticed no real difference. So long as the 'woody' material can sink and contains Lignin your OK, cause thats what the catfish are after.

Beech wood can be used, providing it is well cleaned and soaked, however as someone else mentioned this can take a few months!

I would use some grape vine for now, until you are able to get hold of ome beech and soak it (until it stops growing fungus) or find a small piece of bogwood to order on the net.

Mopani is a little on the hard side to have as the only wood in a tank containing Panaque imo.

try and track down some softer stuff as well would be my advice, what was labelled 'bogwood' in my LFS went down a treat with mine

I will add a couple different types of wood. I have driftwood in the tank being held down by rock because it's not water logged yet... will this be ok? Nobody commented on Javawood... I think it's safe to assume that if I provide some driftwood (still water logging) and some mopani/grapevine that the javawood won't have a problem in my tank if they don't eat it. None of my LFS have bogwood or water logged driftwood. The petco about 4 cities away has was they label as "Aquatic wood." Should I buy a piece of it and add it? What wood does petco typically sell?

I think wood is wood, honestly. I have mopani and bogwood in my tank. I'll let you know if my L15s hate a particular kind. LOL

bearing in mind that L15 are Peckoltia and as such are not a wood eating species like Hero's gold stripe

Mopani? Drift Wood?

Driftwood. Get it from ur LSF or pet store, BUT REMEMBER TO BOIL IT OVER 3 TIMES TO AVOID THE WATER GETTING TANNINED (BROWN)!!!! IT CAN BE REALLY ANNOYING!!! MY WHOLE TANK TURNED BROWN!!!! BUT MY BRISTLENOSE (FEMALE), GWAPA SEEMS TO LOVE IT!!! LOL
