I'm about to go searching for Melini cories again.

Some of you may know that I lost a female to the heat wave and so now I'm back to one female and two males - not a great number.

I checked at Maidenhead Aquatics yesterday but they had none (they never have had them but it's still worth checking) I'm about to head out to the place that I got the remaining 3 in the hope they might have them again. It's a long shot but I need to at least replace the one that died ... if I can get 2 then even better.

Wish me luck - I'm going to need it. Melini cories are like hens teeth in this area!

thanks lock man but it wasn't my lucky day today. They had panda's, peppered, bronze,  and albino but no melini

I asked the staff if they had any idea when they might get some more in but they didn't ...

I'm in North Yorkshire, England, if anyone from this area see's Melini cories please let me know

Seen some recently, but it is a fair piece to this neck of the woods.

thanks guys ... I'm not happy about buying online though. I want to see the fish is healthy and correctly identified too. The Melini is often mixed up with bandits and metae's as they look similar.

As cories go, these are on the expensive side - hardly surprising given how rare they seem to be around here! If you can get hold of them though Mr Doodles would they be a possability instead of the rarer Panda for your parts? They are closely related to the Panda and so are small cories

Thanks, Akasha. Might be a good option. Been a couple of weeks since I was in that shop, and other than commons like Bronze, Albinos and Peppereds don't hang around long. But will have to see what comes in.

Are melini cories known as False Bandit Cories out of curiousity?

If they are, I can safely say I have not seen any of these in any LFS around me in Surrey, certainly have seen bandits and peppered cories etc
Like you, I am after a rarely seen corydora, Habrusous Corydora otherwise known as Salt & Pepper cories, have seen them ONCE in 2 years and I did not buy any at that time, now I wish i did

Hi Ch4rlie, yes I have heard them of them given the common name of 'false bandit'. There are several similar looking cories to the Melini - the bandit and metae being the two I can remember.

I asked about them at my favourite lfs and the store owner pulled out all his tank cards (they have cards that they attach to the tanks which give all the info about each fish with a photo) and we went through them. He had one for Melini but there was also about another 6 or 8 cories all very similar. This is why I want to see them before I buy and be certain they are definite Melini otherwise I'm creating myself a new problem of potentially having to add another group which I don't want to do!

Good luck in your search, hope you find them :)

Ouch,Ch4lie. Hasbrosus pop up round here from time to time, sadly though I have not been in a position to grab them up. And the shop that gets them doesn't like to hold Freshwater fish, due to limited space on that side. If you spend a house note on Salties though, they'll quarantine them as long as you want.

If I see some I'll grab them for you. I'm in Scotland (thats oop north to you) but son is based in Yorkshire ATM and drives up and down regularly.

Incidently Maidenhead aquatics has opened up in our local Dobbies. I had a look, prices are sky high compared with our local shops.

Not sure where you live Charlie, but Discovery aquatics in Dundee has some. At least they did a few days agom

thanks munroco that's very kind. I would only really need 2 - preferably female where possible as I have 2 males and more females mean a chance for them to breed and increase their number themselves.

If in the meantime my local store gets some in I'll post and let everyone know :D

Just seen this salt and pepper.amazing

Am based in Surrey, basically just below M25 at bottom.

I do know Discovery Aquatics as it happens and have been then once or twice as am originally from Perthshire and used to work in Dundee, I went there for first time a year or two ago and its fairly impressive with their stocking choices as they do usually have one or two species not usually seen in LFS.

A bit too far to pick up some cories really, 8 hours drive. A good tip though, thanks :)

I am in East Yorkshire and am sure I have seen some of late, will go and double check if you are willing to travel. Or can send you telephone number of stores?

I get them every time I see them and am about to add two small groups together as alas, although I once bought 10, the whole stock in a shop, they did not all survive, despite being adding to an established tank. If I see anymore I will grab them, my sister is from Essex, would it be viable for you to travel there if I managed to get any spare ones for you?
