Thanks for any advice

I would hazard a guess that the three connections on the right are for the feed

~ is positive and the other negative (doesn't matter witch way round)
the other is the earth

then looks like the builbs are connected in series with the current flowing to number 1 (+)to the bulb
then back to 2 witch is linked to 3. The current goes from there to the bulb then to the next bulb then to number 5 witch is linked to 6 Then back through the bulb to 7 (-)

Just follow the diagram in the top pic ste the semicircle tings are the tubes with four pins.

Matthew5664 ~ is positive and the other negative (doesn't matter witch way round)
the other is the earth

First tube

1 on ballast = 4 on 1st tube
2 on ballast = 3 on 1st tube
3 on ballast = 2 on 1st tube

Then link 1 on 1st tube to 4 on the second tube

5 on ballast = 3 on 2nd tube
6 on ballast = 2 on 2nd tube
7 on ballast = 1 on 2nd tube

You will need the propper wire which it a single copper strand as the braded stuff wont grab in the fitting properly

Where dind you get the stuff from?

hope it helps

regards

Cheers Matthew and Simon

Just got home to find the replies after a trip out to variuos places trying to get advice on the wiring for these. In the end I figured it out pretty much how you have advised.

bits came from Here with a total cost of £39 sixty something with next day delivery.

Going to give them a go and see what they are like

That website says "quality branded lighting control gear and associated components to electrical wholesalers and Original Equipment Manufacturers."

did you do some fancy sweet-talking ! or are you a wholesaler !! or did they not mean to say that ?? !
In other words - are they happy to deal with Joepublic ?

Seemed more than happy to deal direct with me and I aint no Wholesaler! I just dropped them a mail to their sales email addy and got a reply within an hour. They wanted me to fax the order over at first but settled for an email and call to confirm credit card details.

Thanks folks all sorted and up and running :D

nice to hear.
just don't forget to stand back and marvle in your own glory for a while!

Oh I didn't forget that one! Although a failure to start on the first attempt did put a dampener on things

:D

Just need to tidy the blocks up a bit as they were all I had lying around along with the earth wire that I used for the single core - Thanks for the tip Simon

Simon the 39 was just for the ballast and fittings. The only cable that I bought was 10m of 0.5 3 core @ £3.50

I had some mains cable lying around along with the bloc and heat shrink but you only need a tiny bit of mains for the job and a 6 length bloc, if you found some single core for the whole run then you would be laughing.

Rough guess if you had to buy the lot would be £45 - yeah it's more expensive than the interpet but hopefully this unit will not over heat to the point of meltdown :D

Compare that to the ASL unit [with reflection] and you have quite a save

Tubes go for £16 a throw

I built my own T% lighting hood too. Bought my twin 54w ballast & tube ends from farnell. It was approx half price than the arcadia version but obviously doesn't come in a flash cash but that didn't matter as ballasts are fitted in a pod on top the hood like this.

Built my own as well, actually mine looks a lot like ste's. But the first time i wired it i did things a little wrong and when I flicked the switch 2 of the 4 lights came on super bright and the other two not at all. Then it blew out the power to that entire wall. I rewired it and now I consider myself to be an electrical genius. :X
