Ok so i have 2 albino plecs and 4 silver sharks in a 6 x 2 x 2 tank which is 750 liters. And i am thinking of buying some more plecs. Here are a few i have in mind
l25 ( i think it will get to big for the tank ? )
L288
L163
L015
Zebra Pleco, True (L-46)

Will they be ok to go into my tank ? I thought id ask here be for i went and bought them.

L25 will get to about 45cm should be OK for the tank, providing you don't have to many other big fish, but for a 6 footer, shouldnt be too bad
L288 will gt to about 4 inches
L163 will get to about 4-5 inches
L015 Will gt to about 4 inches
L-46 will get to about 3.5 inches

All fairly small but decent sized fish

I personally like the BN Pleco which can get to around 6-7inches

Not many plecs grow too big for a 6x2x2 mate :p
With the exception of probably the common variation.

I have watched a few videos on youtube of the l25 which say they can get to 3ft. And was thinking that the tank is only 2ft high and 2ft going back so wouldn't be able to turn ? I bought the tank hoping to put a red tail catfish into it but then seen some of these L catfish and fell in love with all the different types.I seen a post on here stating that the l25 takes years to fully grow ??

Ah, in my last comment i think i meant to say 145cm

I imagine they would take ages to grow

In light to your question about the L25 being able to turn, it will bend its body as it turns, so it will most likely lose 1/3 of it body length during the turn
They dont turn staying dead straight :p

I have just searched gogle and found out that the l25's are hard to get in the uk. And you can not ship them in from the us because the us has banned shipping of the l25's and l27's So ill have to keep my eyes open around the uk

I will have to ask around and see if they have been added to the " can be exported " list yet i know in 2012 they was on the " Not allowed to be exported" list in the us. But hoping they will remove them from the list

Thats a pity :/
I have seen a couple here in AUS but none for sale

Best of luck to you, hope the information you got was what you wanted :)

The poor Zebra Plec would be absolutely battered by your two albinos if they are albino common plecs, the zebra will be so tiny when you get it they would probably eat it by accident!

Still kicking myself many years later as about 4 years ago I saw a 4-5" Scarlet Plec for sale in a shop that regularly hasn't a clue what is they are selling as they take any old fish back off customers without asking what it was. It was labelled up as 'fancy common plec' and knowing it wasn't a common but clearly looked like it got big, I decided not to buy it and god how I wish I had!! Would be worth a lot more now!!

Was for sale at £20

As MBOU noted- putting zebras into the tank you describe will pretty much be like burning money. Please do not do it. For whatever time is stays alive, you will barely see it anyway. At one point I had 13 adults and over 50 assorted zebra fry in a 30 gal. breeder tank. People who visited always asked why I had an empty tank.

If the l25 appeals to you but its size puts you off, consider L14 which will max out at under 12 inches.

The problem with housing multiple plecos of different sizes is territoriality. In the wild big and small species can cohabit because there is lots of space and all sorts of cover. Even in a 6x2x2 tank, there is not much space in this regard. There will be competition for food as well.

I suggest you either choose one lager pleco to be a lone centerpiece type fish or else a couple of the smaller species.

I have had my plecostomus -Barnabus (his name)-for almost 5 years and he is now 1 foot long exactly.  He is great.  He keeps my 350 gallon tank clean from algae.  There is none.  I even feed him algae wafers daily to insure he is getting enough to eat.  He is huge and I am hoping he gets even bigger.  Yes he does poo a lot but it is worth the trade off to keep the algae off the tank.  I scoop out his poo a couple of times a week with a net and its all good. My filter blows it all into one pile at the bottom of the tank so it's easy to clean out.  When he was small he didn't do real good at keeping all the algae out but since he has grown he does an excellent job. I am glad I only have one but I am so glad that I have him.  They do grow big but how big, I am not sure.  He is the biggest one I have seen yet.  I don't know if tank size inhibits their growth or not, but I wouldn't think so.  I have a giant aquarium so I think mine will be fine in it. I think if you get too many plecos, you will eventually have to get rid of some of them since they do grow big and poo a lot. The more plecos you have the more poo you will have in your aquarium.  One or two would be enough and then you will need the patients til they grow big enough to take care of your entire tank. I had two originally but one jumped out and died before I realized he had gotten out :(  (very sad) I am glad now that I only have one because he is so big and there would not be enough algae for two to eat and there would be too much poo with two. He also eats all the left over food at the bottom of the tank. I have no rocks or substrate in the bottom of my tank, just a glass bottom and all its very clean from Barnabus and so are all four sides of the tank. He also cleans the heaters.   .
