Plecs wont tolerate salt to much, well most wont anyways... what livebearers have you got?, you dont need salt for them if you have a good quality water.

Salt will eventually kill the plecs from everything I have ever read.

Plecs originate from the Amazon basin, one of the most mineral-free bodies of water on the planet. The issue is that after many, many generations of living in such mineral-free water, plecs have lost their ability to deal with high mineral content, like salt. The salt builds up in their bodies, in their internal organs like liver and kidneys, and will eventually kill them. For short periods of time, it isn't so bad, like if you are trying to kill of a pathogen. But, long-term they just don't have the biological processes to handle it anymore.

Some plecs are fine in salt but the total number of salty tolerant plecs is tiny when compared to the total number available...however some of the more commen ones are salt tolerant but you'll still need to do some research against your particular plec to be sure.
