Will My Tank Go Through The Floor?

did i say the 3 15 stone people were only going to stand there for a few secs?

theres no need to get defensive, but, regardless, you implied it. you put forward a *test* to have three people stand in a spot in a house to see if the floor collapses, somehow i dont see that test lasting more than a few minutes.

they could stand there for a minute, hour, day, week, month, year ... they still ain't gonna fall through the floor

the longer the weight is on the floor, the more chance the floorboards have of buckling. i would agree if you said 'probably aint gonna fall through the floor', but even still, like i said, it depends on a lot of factors. for example if you placed that quarter tonne weight in the middle of the floor in a large room in an old house where there is likely to be rotten wood or perhaps termites, it may not hold for long.
do you work for the tabloid press? reason i'm asking is you seem very good at putting words into peoples mouths. i was using the analogy of 3 x 15 stone people to give mp3 a visual guide to the approx. weight. oh yeah, one last thing, i didn't imply anything about time. read peoples replies before you post.

I have a Rio 125 upstairs, in the same room as the huge 450L tank, and also a 28 inch TV. I have (obviously) no problems, touch wood. As long as the tanks are positioned accross the struts properly you should be fine mate.

Carl.

I agree as long as you position your tank across the floor joists you should be fine. The only thing I've ever seen fall through a floor was my son funniest thing I've ever seen just his head sticking up through the floor. We were redoing the flooring and he stepped on ther area being done;but normally this doesn't happen unless construction is going on or the original contractor got his license from Acme mail order.

... your analogy was incorrect, and i corrected you. let it go.
analogy perfectly intact so nothing to correct, you raised the issue of time even though i implied NOTHING about time in my post. nothing to let go either, i'm sitting here watching the football perfectly chilled. just don't like people putting words in my mouth.

lol mate, whether you implied anything about time or not, your analagy was incorrect.

you originally came up with the naive statement that "3 people could stand on that spot and wouldnt fall through the floor". that statement meant nothing and was untrue and unhelpful to the original poster which is why i corrected you. dont take it personally just because you were wrong. i would have corrected anyone else in your place :hey:

if you would like to educate yourself and look into why you were wrong, please check Tolak's link that he provided. it is quite informative.
