I have a 90g with 5 small juvenilne Denisons Barbs (Red liine Torpedos), one very young and small synodotis, and 6 small neon rainbowfish. I want second and third opinions regarding adding a large full grown Rainbow shark. I have heard it is not a good idea but I do want some other opinions. Right now my rainbow shark is in my 55g with two breeding angels and they are starting to fight after almost a year of peace..

I really dont want to get rid of my rainbow shark , he is very gorgeous....

Another option is moving my large lone angelfish(from a 20g) to my 90g and having the rainbow shark alone in the 20g , my concern here is the large angel has been alone for a year and I anticipate her being agressive with the fish in the 90g.

Any suggestions? I do have an empty 10g....

Thanks so much for any help,

Mibson

I have not received any replies, I would love some input. My main question is: Will a large angelfish work with 5 small juvenilne Denisons Barbs (Red liine Torpedos), one very young and small synodotis, and 6 small/medium sized neon rainbowfish? In a heavily planted 90g. I know there are no for certain rules about fish compatabilty but would love some suggestions.

Thanks for any help,

Hi,

If the other fish are smaller than a full grown neon tetra then i would have thought they would be eaten as this is what angel fish would eat in the wild. That said, they are wider in the body than a neon tetra so they may be ok. If you provide lots of cover plants etc for them to disappear into then i don't see a problem.

Emma :)

You should be fine. Define small, just to be sure.
The small female neon rainbows are larger than full grown neon tetras. about 1.25 to 1.5 times the size of a neon tetra. I do have 3 lone neon tetras in the tank that I could move if need be.

I would love to add my 15 rummynose tetras to the tank, do you think this are ok with the medium sized angel? I have seen larger angels before but this angel is two years old and I would GUESS she is almost full grown.

Sorry for so many questions but what about my rainbow shark? do you think this fish would work in my 90g also? I have heard they are nasty to fish with the same fin arrangment and Im concerned about by denisons barbs...

Thanks so much!

It's possible (not necessarily probably) that an angel will eat any fish it can get in it's mouth. Slim bodied fish like neons, their natural prey in the wild, are most at risk.
