Although my BN's are now getting nicely settled in their standard 3ft tank outside, I am tempted to move them to a pond which is 3ft deep x 4ft long and 3ft wide.... but, will they breed in a 3ft deep tank???.... I do not wish to disturb them right now, but since they are not breeding (and there are no indications that they will).... I will consider it if I know they will breed at that depth..... Please advise.

Then also... this tank (pond) circulates through an adjacent pond of the same dimensions, before the water is pumped back into a 40gal filtration drum..... I intend to move my Corries into the 2nd tank because their current setup is infested with snails which would eat the eggs if they should breed..... Will Corries breed at this depth??....

I can't see why not would there be any way of the fish getting from pond to pond? Pics?

Ludwig,

Does the tank have loads of hiding places, caves, that sort of thing.
That might encourage them to breed?

Yes... The tank they're currently in has all of that.... plenty tunnels & dark spots, although there is about an hour per day when they are in full sunshine.....(but they remain in the tunnels in any case till dusk)

One last question before I move them to this (deep) pond...... The pond has no cover and is filled to about 1" from the brim..... is there any danger of them jumping out??... If not, and if there is still no sign of breeding by Saturday... then I'm moving them to the pond.

Sound like some very lucky BN's to me :good: . breeding shouldn't be a problem in any depth.. they will breed if they feel comfortable enough..time will tell.

I cant see a problem with them jumping out of the pond, ive kept many plecs in open topped tanks and never had a single jumper, i think you will be fine :).... goodluck with the breeding.

Right!.... the move is made.... They are now in one of the outside ponds which gets no sunshine during the day, so the water is slightly colder than their previous residence. I guess it will be very seldom now that I will ever see them and then top down only...... I put 5 in there, so lets see how many I remove after a year allowing them to just do their thing naturally.
