Has anyone had success doing this?
I've got an abundance of java moss and a side of my aquarium which i feel looks too barren
I want to tie the moss down to the slate and let it spread, I know it works on wood but would it work on slate?

nope, riccia and javamoss etc never attached to anything unless tied. tying with fishing line is recommended, i have seen some pro fishtank keeps use aquarium glue to attach moss on wood/slate etc but I won't recommend that.

i realise i'll have to tie it down to begin with, but will it eventually latch on like it does with driftwood?

it will but it takes time but i
use hair nets instead of fishing line
make its a band new one after a while
the moss will eventually attach it self
to the item its fastened to
