Will It Ever Go Away?

Using Tapwater (depending on your area) is not a good start to any marine tank

You will simply be increasing the phos levels ever time you do a water change

Agreed, tapwater is a HUGE no-no. Also, what kind of lights are you running on the tank?

I also use tapwater and there is no way that I could ever get RO water. Will my tank explode or something?
No but there is so many chemicals etc in tapwater that everytime you do a water change you will be adding more of these to a closed system

You will also be fighting an ongoing battle against nuisence algea, due to it being fed by the phosphates in you tapwater

Why not buy a RO Unit, they are cheap as chips & also very handy to have incase of any problems where you need Ro right away

Im in college...where do you think I could ever hook up a RO unit? RO units cost 300 dollars too. How about distilled water?

in the uk they cost about £60 to £90 so $300 semes a lot of dollers are you shore that's what they cost ?

Actually you can get a 6-stage RO unit for $100 to your door in the states. Paying $300 is a waste of cash ;). I'd go with distilled water then if you're in the dorms. May not be quite as good, but way better than tap. Just make sure it says distilled water on the bottle and makes no mention of "spring water" or " mineralized water"

Sorry for hijacking the thread Filmoholic....

My tank is currently filled with tap water conditioned with Seachem Prime (it's for freshwater and saltwater)
Should I just stay with that and when I do a water change use distilled?

As far as the lighting its just the basic 48'' single bulb.on 10 hours a day.I have well water that rises through sandstone.Do you think after the water changes I could be dealing with this alge due to the well water? And I'm looking at some RO systems now. Thanks for all the help.
