well, right now my betta is in a 1/2 gallon tank. i can tell he's happy there cause he's makin bubble nests all the time. but, i have one of my five gallons set up, ready to divide so i can put two bettas in there. but i am worried my betta won't be happy. my tank is already set up, pre cycled, all of that stuff.

Im sure he would be happy in the 5 gallon! More room to swim around and if he is not just move him back.
Good luck :)

I dont think he will be unhappy he will most likely like it better more room to swim.. :fun: :fun: :fun: :fun: :fun: :fun: :fun:

yes, but i'm dividing the tank in half so i can put another betta in there.

quick question. when i go to michaels tomorrow, what is the material i should buy for the divider, or can i buy one like at petsmart?

I don't know what you could buy for a divider, but I know they sell some at petsmart for 10gals. Not sure if they sell some for 5. Either way, you should measure it across so you know.

the way i'm gonna put it in, it's 8 3/4 inches across. the tank is 11 3/4 tall.

You can either got by Petsmart and see if they have a divider, or plastic canvas (made for needlepoint work and available in any craft store) works great
I'd suggest the 10 size (smaller holes in it) so they can't see one-another as well through it and won't flare as much.

Since we are talking about dividers...

Do the plastic canvases have bigger holes? I use one of those tacky teal colored dividers, and the holes are so ridiculously tiny, I doubt my filter pulls anything through to the other side. So right now my method is taking out the two boys every few days and removing the divider, and sifting the junk into the filter along with a water change. It works, but I know in between those days nothing is getting through!

THe plastic canvases have the perfect sized holes. They are big enough for filter flow but not big enough for fin nipping through there.

The fish would probably be VERY happy in there with a friend on the other side of the divider. I have three split tanks, and all my fish are very happy! :D

Plastic canvas comes with holes of different sizes... the larger number the canvas, the smaller the holes. I use 10 (meaning 10 squares per inch,) and 7 is another common size but I think the holes are a little too big in those and it's too easy for the bettas to see one-another

heres mine with the 7 count plastic canvas and it works great, mine don't see each other as such just shadows that they flare at every now and then, and the filter seems to work fine

ok, i'm getting the 10 on the ratings i have heard from people. now, when i go to micheals, either answer these questions.
1) Where would that stuff be located
2) If i can't find that, what is the exact name of the procuct so i can ask one of the workers.
