hey. basicly, i wanna wack sum duckweed into my com. tank as im thinking the roots will be very good for my lil fry. will it survive in there? or will it be too hot or whatever? cheers, :good:

Hi,

Im not sure if Duckweed would survive but I can see if being a problem of blocking light from the tank as Duckweed spreads very quickly and would cover the top of the tank in days, I also think it would be almost impossible to get rid of once added to the tank (Someone please correct me if im wrong but thats the experience I have with our pond!)

Cheers,

Craig

it does survive...ive got soem in my newt tank but if you get ti from the pond be sure to give it a REAL GOOD wash in normal tapwater ;)

I think the duckweed will survive fine, I've had some 'appear' in mine a couple of months ago, not suer if it came in with new plants or where it came from, but it's surviving fine and to be honest it's thriving in there! It is quite a pain to completely remove though, but will give some cover for for your fry.

I'd be more tempted to go for something like Amazon Frogbite as a floating plant. It's leaves are a lot bigger and the roots a lot longer giving much more cover. I've got some in the same tank my duckweed is in and not only does it look a lot better imo, but also provides much more cover.

I've not had the duck weed in my tank 'go wild' at all, it's been a lot slower growth than I'd expected it to be.

Don't do it!!!!

We had some come in a few years ago and it took about 2 years, 4 tanks moves, 4 drilled and sump tanks and we still have got rid of the stuff.

It will survive.

I would buy a floating plant for the tank that is not duckweed. We have one that is desgined for ponds/coldwater and therefore was about 1/4 of the price if I had bought something from the tropical section. We have this one
