Will Cories Eat Fry?

They are lovely healthy looking Corys, Lindsey.

Honestly, when one wants to raise fry, it is always better safe than sorry. Wigglers are always at risk for being gobbled.

Do you call newborn livebearers wigglers, 5teady?

I was really only responding to the characterization of the Cory as a fry hunter. I am not intending to hunt you down and shoot you either. If you ever become Coryaphobes I will start handing out unasked for advice. :shifty:

I was never intending to breed guppys, but as a bonus, guppyman/Frank Falcone sent me a group of his world class guppies with a shipment of Corys. They are multiplying in their tank and soon will need their own acommodations. I will likely sell them to my lps. If they don't want them there is always the frontie tank. They are really lovely, though. The fella stares at me sometimes. I assume he is waiting for food. :sly:

im a bit confuesed at your responce, was you having a dig at me there?

No, no digs, not usually my style,

The comment about the guppies and the fronties? I dont feed my fronts live food. Safer for their own fry, if I ever breed them. It was a bad joke, poking fun at the fertility of guppys and their reputation for replication. No offence meant.

Well I decided to put the pleco in my community tank since there is lots of algae and he would be very happy in there and I put the cories with the fry. They are strong swimmers and now that I think about it I don't think they will be eaten.

Well keep us informed of how they do. Post a link here if you post pics of your Plec or livebearers.

Play sand is generally the least expensive.

It is not good for planted tanks though

Nice Plec. I like Plecs. They are funny creatures.

Thank you! I'm just wondering how many cories could I keep in a 10 gallon tank?

I will keep 5 medium sized Corys in 10 usg with good filtration and weekly water changes. Actually I will keep more than that with those conditions, but the maintenance must be kept up with. I would probably run two small hob filters--a cartridge and a sponge--the best of both worlds. but one good filter would do it. I like lots of filtration and with the small filters, there are lots of unintended interruptions so I use 2 to be safe and it also keeps a spare filter running.

But with that being the fry tank, I suppose my over the top filtration would not be too good. Still, 5 Corys should do ok with good maintenance.

Thank you! I think I will get one more false juli and one more bronze or albino. Or maybe even one more of each.

This is a cute thread. I call my livebearer fry "fry". I also keep corydoras in my platy fry tank. Right now I have C. trilineatus in with my fry, but I have also kept peppers and bronze with them as well. It would have to be a pretty sick fry to be caught by one of the catfish, and you wouldn't want that fish anyways. They do a great job keeping the tank clean. From my experience, the fry are more in danger from their hungry mother than a corydora.

Thank you. It's been almost 2 days now and everyone is getting along fine and there are still 8 little fry in there. I'm also hoping my guppy drops fry before these are too big.
