I have a black pond liner cut to size to fit the inside of my tank's back wall, and I've used plasti-dipped magnets to hold it in place. But it's fast got covered in algae and it's very visible.

I think the pond liner material might be the cause as it's a rough material. I'm thinking of replacing it with the normal glossy plastic that aquarium backgrounds normally come in. Of course, I want it stuck inside the tank.

Has anybody placed a black normal aquarium background in their tank and had visible algae problems with theirs?

You need to find the cause of the algae, it wont be because of what you used,it will be an imbalance in the aquarium itself. Got any pics so we can diagnose?
