Hello - I have a male Betta in a 1.66 hex tank. I also have a 10 gal. that has two female guppies and a Sailfin Molly in it. I did not put them together because I figured that the betta would see the Molly's finage and attack.

Obviously, it would be easier on me to put them together and have one less tank to maintain, but I don't want to figure it out by trail and error...

Opinions?

i think they will be okay, i have regular mollies with my betta and they get along fine. you could probably put him in the tank and watch to see how they interact. you can change around the plants and decorations in the tank so there are no territory issues.

I had some mean mollies once. I couldnt even keep a female betta in with them but they were the black mollies. They were so mean I named one of them sadam and the other one bin laden.

Hey Shadow- that's good to know! I was told by the lfs that I could not put the betta in with the male guppies as their fins were big enough that there would be fighting. So, that is why I was worried about the Sailfin Molly. Her (his?) topfin is so big and pretty when it comes up, plus she can 'flare' it when she wants.

lol at the fish names! That is too funny! So far, everyone is so friendly. The molly and the guppies won't even eat the guppy fry that hitched a ride home with one of my fish!

I just hate it when I learn things the hard way, so I wanted to check with you guys.

bettas will attack guppies because they are smaller also. i was afraid my betta would attack my lyertail mollie, but they are fine. i guess it also depends on their personalities.

Well, I guess if I decide to try it, I better have a lot of time on my hands to sit and watch them!
