If you keep one in a room or area that has a constant temperature then you should be ok. Unfortunately with our weather it's warm one minute and cold the next. It's best to get a heater just so the water temperature doesn't fluctuate too much. :good:

Plz dont!!!! They may surive for a while but he'll be far from happy and will die, they are best keped at 80-82F and should never be sold for unheated tank!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on room temperature and how contstant that temperature is. If it's always 24, 25C ish, fine, if it's below that or flunctuates, obviously a heater is needed.

Sorry but after over 3 years of keeping fighters, i have hardly ever used a heater and they have thrived @ room temperature. My White Delta is in an Unheated Cube and thrives.

It dose depend on the amberiant temp of the water and 80-82F is best, they will live at lower temp's but if it get to cool you do not like it.... my unheated tanks are currently 75F they will live at that, but most will tend to be very slugginsh and not they true nature.

P.S. I've been keeping fighter for 20 years, breed them for the last 15 years, studies fish science and fish farming for 2 years and been now work in the industery for the last 10 years.

the way your temperature fluxates is the same way here. as long as the room temperature is warm enough and constant, they should be fine. mine are doing great and it's freaking freezing here :good: !(they have no heater)

honestly...NO. they are tropical fish and need warmer waters. a heater is a must, especially in england where the weather changes daily from warm to cold.heaters are only cheap for small set-ups and will keep your betta happy

that's not true. the fish isn't going to be outside, so why does the outside temperature matter? as long as your house is a constant temperature. my temperature fluxates constantly...it was a warm winter and then half way through it, it was in the negatives! (Farenheit) my bettas dont have heaters, my room's a constant 75F and they're both healthy and happy.

Quick answer...yes they do survive at room temp, with no heater and no filter(with at least every other day water changes) with only a lamp shining over the tank

personally because the betta is a tropical fish i think it need a heater. your house temp. may be kept at a regular temp. but what happens if it becomes really cold or really warm and you change your room temp.
its a personaly choice to supply bettas with heaters, i understand some people dont give them one, but in my eyes its a tropical fish that requires a heater. why buy one if you cant look after it?

This depends on the temperature of the room it's kept in. My dad kept tropicals for years with no heater, but he kept his apartment at 80F. If you have an area that is consistantly warmer you shouldn't need a heater. If you don't, then get a heater, they don't cost that much.

first off fishboy, that's insulting me. i am looking after mine perfectly fine, just because they don't have a heater doesn't mean they aren't healthy and happy. i do not change my room temperature, it's a STEADY 75F, meaning i DON'T change it. all your other questions are "what if" questions, needing no reply.

my do have a desk lamp over them keeping the water warmer than if they didn't have one, but obviously, mine are perfectly fine without a heater.

Poor fish, if u lived in a desert and was use to high temps and u was moved to england you would be cold and wearing jumpers in the summer........

These fish have evolved in high temps and the metablosium has had many 1000's or years to be perfect for that life. We now come along plonk them in water 10F lower then their use to and say "Oh they look so happy".... They have no jumpers and they get on with it

Raise the temp to 80+F and their so much happier.

Another one of those highly controversial subjects. I say, if your room temp stays pretty steady regardless of the weather outside and is 75F or higher, go for it. If you want to buy a heater, then buy a heater. If you don't want a heater, then make sure it fits the conditions needed and don't use a heater. As far as I know, as long as the betta has its needs met, it doesn't really matter how you go about ensuring those needs. *shrug*
