Wild Tropical

No England is way too cold for wild tropical fish to survive.
Can I ask why you ask so many odd questions?

Nope due to the cold water, :hyper:
But i did hear a guy on here did have guppys in a river near to him dunno if it was true or not.

Urban myth I'd guess, the weather here in England is way too cold for tropical fish to survive in the wild

Don't see how it is an odd question I was just wondering if it was possible

I wasn't referring to just this question, but to all the other questions you've asked

tropical fish originate inbetween the tropics of cancer and capricorn, England isn't inbetween these so you won't find tropical fish here

i grew up in glasgow and my dad says the used to be gold fish in the canal there
i never saw them my self first hand tho
i guess they would have been more likey Koi as goldies would not be been able to survive in the wild

I was born and brought up in St Helens, Lancs, and when I was a child (in the 1960s) the canal next to Pilkingtons sheet glass factory was reputed to have tropical fish in it, though I never went to look. The hot waste water from the glass factory was pumped into the canal. Where the water went in was too hot, then as it cooled off further away from the inflow it was just right for tropicals. The fish were supposed to have come from a shop that had gone bust.

For those residents of St Helens too young to remember the sheet works, it was where Tesco now is.

I would not be surprised if some "alien" fish from warmer climates managed to infiltrate places like the south west of England (where the geothermal activity keeps the ground warm), or where factories release warm water into the local streams or rivers. While not fish, I know of a full sized Red Ear Terrapin living in a local pond.

However, I'd be surprised if any of these aliens were from truely tropical waters, where the fish are believed to require mid-20C temps.
