oscars in there natural habitat

Those Oscars look longer than the full grown ones I have seen. Interesting...

My definition of wild oscars is the beautiful classic green variety that was around oh so long ago, my dad kept several pairs of wild greens and they were stunning fish.

I have seen 1 veiltail oscar in person and have to say i wasn't impressed with it. Also the wild that is shown in the other thread seems to have a small veiltail gene in it as shown in the tail and pectoral fins.

Personally i wouldnt buy a veiltail fish, i would rather have a properly propotioned oscar to one that has issues swimming and such.

Man mades are nice but i suppose it comes down to what you like personally.

If i could keep wilds, id probably try it even if they were veiltailed or whatever, id love to keep green oscars from years ago... but id be happy with the "mad made" colourations as they have as much character as any oscar

I Saw a wild oscar?? He had albino look in him but was PURE white.

So cute if he was'nt pre-sold i would of LOVED to buy him  imagen some fry out of that cutey pie xD!

My mom was even saying she'd pay anything for him

I Was like

"Yep.. £375 for a 120 gallon tank and accesories and then we'll get him  "

was it listed as a wild oscar or was it just pure white?
the chances are it wouldn't of been wild. this doesn't meen they arent nice fish, because they are, and if you like oscars then when your ready buy a big tank and get one, you also got to remember they live longer than your average dog so its a committment not just a guppy lol
i've seen plenty of different oscars, wild and captive bred but never a wild caught albino.

Nope... But the guy in the LFS told me he was a wild caught?

He did'nt have much resembalience of Red oscar... It had the Wild look on him ( the patterns your's had ) and had a black dot on he's tail.

and i know xD! My mom likeso scar's because of there personalitys  i cant wait to get a 5-6fter :D

Its very very rare to find a albino anything in the wild, obviously it happens but not much....like the pic i posted above i highly dought the light coloured one was wild caught....

I know in Florida there are 'feral' Oscars, strains of captive bred that have been dumped or escaped into the waterways and colonised them. These would include albinos and the offspring could be seen as 'wild caught' as in not captive bred.

Not true 'wild' fish though.

At the end of the day, I'm very lucky to have my 2 wilds and my 2 captives, all 4 are beautiful and full of personality. I wouldn't say one is 'better' than the other, just different.

huh my lfs pets aat home have

a pure white oscar in with a black dot on its tail and red eyes could this be pure albino

but then whhy would it have black on it if it was albino

Dude, this is sort of what im onabout

If a 'Albino' Oscar has any colour on it at all, no matter how minute it is not a 'Albino' its one of them other things that start with 'L' can't remember the word.

True Albinos go for around $10,000 each in Asia and are extremely rare.
