Ok, this made me laugh but at the same time freaked out a bit!! My snail tried to escape, and my tank is next to my bed!!! dont want a snail on my face in the middle of the night. he managed to go right to the top of my tank over and half way down! not just once! twise!! Any idea why he is doing this, surely he'll dry himself out!!

Its a bumblebee snail, and he's very very active!!

Ahhhhhh lock it up lewis! That would scare the life out of me!
Mine spend a lot of time at the top of the tank but dont seem to escape but now you have me worried!

Well I had 2 bumblebees but I haven't seen one for ages!! might have died in the bacteria bloom but this one.. I named Harry is so active. He literally goes all around my tank so fast and never stops. He's been like it ages. He's so cool.. Hope he doesn't kill himself.

"Bumblebee snail" is the common name usually given to small whelks that are not exactly the water-leaving type. I'd be impressed actually if they dragged themselves all the way out. Leaving the water is a behavior more characteristic of Nerites and other coastal species like Periwinkles. Some of these can also have striped coloration. I'm not seeing the typical whelk shell shape from those pictures; any chance of a top-down photo?

roll theme tune for "the great escape" you need to get some barbed wire and some german snails lewis hahaha. i have an image of harry jumping the barbed wire on a motorbike

I'm not sure what a top-down photo is??

Here's a few I took today. He had climbed to the top and out of the water again but not over this time!

Oh now you come to mention it, think you are right Dark Lord, however think Lewis has the ones that crawl inside peoples' mouths and proceed to munch said face from the inside  I'm sure I read a warning about not keeping them in tanks in bedrooms

that would explain the stripes.... usually we keep these kinds of snails in the living room as they tend not to like to climb stairs.

its a shame what happened to that couple that lived in the bungalow

I heard the couple's children had to fumigate the whole place, the bungalow was crawling alive with the things, apparently they breed like rabbits whilst out of the water  and lay their eggs in the most unexpected places..........

isnt that in peoples bottom's?

pajama bottom's of course.

Spot on, you can tell if they have laid their eggs in your PJ bottoms if you suddenly find green pussy spots that explode when you sit down, in your pj bottoms - its not pretty

They sound like nice snails where can I get my hands on some.
