Why?

Since I bought my 6 bronze corys they have slowly died off I had a problem a few weeks ago where my nitrates went through the roof sorted that problem but I still lost 1 last night and 1 this morning but I've had no problems with my albino or peppered corys.

Are bronze corys more fragile than the others. I can't under stand it.

bronze and albinos are the same fish, possibly the bronze cories were wild caught and werent suitable for an aquarium habitat, thats all I can think of but its unlikely

What are your other water readings like? When you say nitrates were through the roof, what were the exact readings?

or maybe the cories were more succeptable to dieing from the nitrite spike as there immune system is down due to stress from moving

The readings at the time when they were high were

P.h 7.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 160+


I sorted them out now the nitrate is back down to 40 the only thing I can think of is the spike mad them ill and the didn't recover I've got 1 bronze left now and he's not looking too good so I'm expecting him to die too now I'm so gutted

I just hate losing fish for any reason. I think sometimes the fish we get come from histories that doom them from the start, and we'll never know that. So I guess we just enjoy them while we can and give them the best home possible.

And Fishyfriend2, it was a nitrAte spike, not nitrIte. Just so you know the OP didn't have a nitrIte reading of 160+!!
