Why Would My Fish Be Gasping?

All of my fish have rapid gill movement/gasping. This has been since this morning. Water peramaters are:

Ph 7.0
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm
Temp 77F

There have been no cleaners/chemicals near the tank, so what might the problem be? I have my spray bar above the water, so the tank is aerated!

Tank is a Juwel Vision 180 with Eheim Ecco 2236 External Filter and UV Filter.

maybee it would be an idea to add an airstone

Probably u have to get an airstone which will give enough of oxygen.

To be honest, in my opinion, if you have tested the water and everything is OK, there could (only could mind) be a problem with your test kit. Aeration at the surface sounds sufficient (although I am a great believer in the more aeration the better).

If the fish are struggling......even if the params are fine.........do a partial water change (i know, i know, people's answer to everything, but it is a very good short term remedy, whilst you find out what is wrong).

My advice: 30% or similar water change.

Bit more aeration (if possible)..........re-check the water parameters once the tank has "settled" from the water change (few hours).

Something else to consider........have you changed anything in any of your filters recently.........is something in your filter/tank beginning to break down into the water (rock/wood/sponge etc).

good luck.

Added any new fish lately.
Check the gills over, any signs of flicking and rubbing on objects.

More than likly low oxygen levels in the water... get and air pump and air stone(s), and that should fix the problem
