Why Won't My Vallis Grow?

I put about 5 or so bunches of vallis in my tank about a month or so ago now and in the first week I had a bit of die off so I trimmed it back and got rid of all the dieing leaves.

I thought it's vallis after all and it will grow back tenfold in a couple of weeks but it just hasn't, I have maybe 3 or 4 new leaves and they are only about 5" high and overall my Vallis corner just looks c**p

I read about sometimes dosing Flourish Excel can affect it? Should I stop dosing even though all my plants have skyrocketed since dosing? Or should I just buy a few more bunches sling them in and hope for the best?

Cheers

In my admitedly limited experience I have found Vallis to not be as easy to grow as the common opinion would have us believe. Somtimes it grows like billyo & other times it just doesnt take. Doesnt seem to be any reasoning behind this.

That's a real shame, was really wanting a good bunch of Vallis for a "Jungle-y" feel to my tank. My Saggitaria is nice and healthy/green and slowly sprouting new leaves up through the substrate but the Vallis is having none of it

The liquid carbon is probably (90%) killing the Vallis. Personally I'd find a substitute for the vallis and keep the excel :good:

or go Press. CO2

I had a similar experience. It went like the proverbial off of a shovel in one of my tank under T8's... Put it in my tank with T5's and it has done jack! Although the few new shoots it has sent up do look very vibrant!

Hmm I have T5's in my tank too, wonder if thats contributing? My stubby shoots are really vivid green and healthy looking just don't get very long and not spreading like I expected it to.

What kind of substitutes to Vallis is there for a long grassy plant to give a jungle look without using CO2?

Cheers

Already got that and that is staying quite short in comparison to what Vallis grows to, my stuff gets to around 6" at max?

I have an absolute abundance of that stuff in my other tank so I may try it in here and see what it looks like.

I can always hope the vallis stops throwing a hissy fit and picks up a bit

Thanks :good:

Worth a try mate. Check out Tizers thread in the members pics section, he recieved some Sag from ebay (last trading post i think) and it's near on 12"!!

Thats where I got mine from in a bundle of 50 plants, most of the long leaves started dieing off and its grown back in a much shorter although brighter green form, may just be my dodgy local water though lol

That was the general outcome in Tizers thread... That it would melt. Maybe try some different stems?
