I think fish are the most hoarded and mistreated animals of all the animals out there...pica_nuttalli said:i'm still troubled by people who hoard animals especially those who start the process out of kindness. my consideration of "hoarding" is when the number of animals exceeds the owner's ability to provide from them to the extent that simple maintenance cannot be accomplished (i.e. feeding, cleaning up wastes, controlling breeding in certain cases). if you cannot provide for an animal's needs, you should not attempt to own it!
It takes some time somtimes trying to persuade some people not to buy anymore fish because their tank is seriously overstocked but you know they only started the thread so they could somhow find somone who will say its fine to add another fish.
What is it with big fish as well keeping them in as small as tank as posibly acceptable?
Its like i get this feeling that everyone thinks if you own a 48inch channel catfish or realy rare specialised betta or expensive L no. plec they automatically become an expert or somthing on fish?
Why is it as soon as somone succesfully breeds a betta they become an expet on them?
Why can't you just own a couple of fish an be a respected knolegable person on fish as you are- its like you need to own somthing rare before people start taking you seriously...i dunno, maybe im just ranting...
When i went to watermart the other day and they asked me what fish i had and i said mainly livebearers they looked at me like i was silly newb cos i owned guppys .
I think one reason why people hoard fish so much is mainly because the ones that do it badly, only view their fish as stupid decorative items.
But yeah i agree you can't call yourself a an animal rescuer if you are keeping the "rescued" animals in conditions no better or worse than what they were already in.
