why this brown algae

Hi All,

I also am experiencing some brown alage, however it is ONLY on my plants. I don't see this algae anywhere else? Could this also be related to low light levels?

My lights are the standard set that came with the tank and are on for about 12 hours a day.

After looking under the scope ... the brown material on my plants is indeed ... diatoms ...

In the past my light was on about 12 hours per day maybe a tad more .. the tank is near a window .. and only up for 7 weeks ... the window is on the shade side of the house .... I've been reducing the light starting recently ... the light in the tank has dropped considerably .. Is this a bad idea ??

Too low PH-Levels can cause brown algea- did you test that? Ifit is too low you should use a little PH-increaser! Grenn Algea usurally loves to show when PH is too high!
