why isnt my firemouth

I have had my fire mouoth for 3 months and his chest area is not red at all. not even pink. Is this normal.....will it become red. It is now almost 3 inches long.

How big is it? A lot of times they don't develope the red part till they get a little bigger. Keep him on a good balanced diet and good water and he'll flare up for you soon.

again it is 3 in long! lol you missed that part

im almost 90 percent sure its a fiiremouth.......the only doubt in my mind is that at my lfs he doesnt usually sell them and he said it came in with a shipment of convicts.

IT has the firmouth look and markings ..... but there are faint vertical stripes like convict ones andthey are darker now compared to when i bought it. Is it possible its a mix?

Could be. I recently read on a different board where a guy had a convict and firemouth do the mating dances n all. They were also both guarding a batch of eggs, donno if they hatched or not.

Also the females don't have as defined colors as males, you may just have a juvi female.

when my convict laid eggs the only fish it didnt chase was the firemouth........they didnt hatch ..the firmouth just hovered beside her. The eggs were gone in the morning. puzzling eh?

sounds to me like you got yourself a female fire mout hthey look different hardly any colour on the chin at all. have a look in your lfs to see a female and ask the assistant
