Are concerned about my female Dwarf Gourami. Over a period of about a week her abdomen has swollen up quite a fair bit and i'm totally unsure of what's caused it. I have had her about 1 month and she is in a fully cycled tank which has bee cycled about 5mths. Water stats are spot on and all other fish are well.

Tank was treated successfully for Ich about 3wks ago and all fish recovered well (lost 4 Guppies during treatment though) She is eating well but is not as brash as she normally is. She eats like a horse but the last couple of days has not been as eager to get to the food as she normally is. The swelling is of the same shape and size on both sides of the fish and she is gasping quite a bit. She seems more lethargic than normal. Haven't been able to catch her stool movements so have no idea of the colour, but haven't observed anything unusual on sand when cleaning out tank.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Bless her.

All you can do is try epson salt baths to help draw the fluid out.
Isolate also and try a bacterial med. She needs isolating as if she dies and the fish peck at her dead body it can pass onto the other fish.
Also try some peas and feed no other foods for a few days.

What do you feed the fish?

Thank you so much for your reply Wilder. Sadly, she didn't make it. Thanks for trying to help me though, it was really appreciated.

Bless her.
R.I.P.
Sorry for your loss.

Just do a few water changes on the main tank.
Good Luck.
