Well, my tank has gone to a friend for the foreseeable future, which is sad, but made up for by the fact that the reason I can't commit to it is that I'll be spending about 3 months a year doing fieldwork for my PhD on St Kilda. And here's where I'll be staying when I do:

Village Bay, Hirta, St Kilda

Worth clicking through to the larger version!

10 shot panorama, Nikon D200 with Sigma 10-20 @ 20mm, handheld.

The whole island is completely unreal; was just there for 2 weeks volunteering for the long term sheep ecology project and doing some preliminary work for my imminent PhD studying the St Kilda fieldmouse and can honestly say its one of the weirdest but best places I've ever been.

did you take it yourself?

if i was you i would SERIOUSLY considered selling prints, its amazing!

Hehe, thanks. Yes I took it. Hoping to get a lot more like this over the next 3 years, will be looking at selling them at some point as St Kilda does generate quitea lot of public interest.

Beautiful scene and picture :good: I'm sure observing animals in their natural environment is more than make up for not having an aquarium :) Good luck with your studies.

P.S. still love your mischievous DP avatar

Is that a real pic?? Looks photoshopped! If it isn't then wow. Amazing

P.S. Lol it says I'm a fish fanatic, but I don't even have any fish yet lol:p

This is truly magnificint, amazing and wonderful picture..... look at those clouds, you are very lucky to go there, I hope you enjoy your visit!! I know I will if I were in your place!!

Somehow I don't think you will miss your tank their lol! And that picture is stunning! Did you use a filter? It is great you managed all the shots without any major change of light in that weather!

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed seeing it.

Hehe, I do miss the little buggers. Going to be at least 3 years before I go back to fishkeeping though I think.

Yes its real, but it has also been through photoshop... everything you see there is as it was at the time (landscape, clouds, rainbow, light and shadows), but its had tweaks to exposure, contrast etc in PS to bring out the best in it.

No filters, and it was shot handheld so each of the composite shots was only about 2 seconds apart - the weather was changing about once a minute, as you can probably guess from the various rainstorms across the bay. Did a fair amount of exposure blending in PS afterwards to balance the forground/midground/sky.

Is that HDR re-touched?

Nope, I never use HDR or tone mapping. It does however have various adjustments applied only to selective parts of the image to balance exposure/contrast etc.
