Why does everyone think WM

Right.
I've seen veils, crowntails and doubletails at our walmart. It's not all that often, but with the sheer volume of fish those vendors go through, it's not uncommon for a really highly sought after one slips thru.

Uh i ment half moon! my bad! um and yes im not mistaken there was a half moon betta at my walmart just cause yours doesnt have them doesnt mean wm's of other states dont have them.
I doubt it was a true halfmoon, though. Halfmoon is not a true genetic phenomenon. It only happens with pristine conditions, just the right combination of genetics and a lot of luck. That's why true half moons are so rare. It's possible that the fish had a half moon parent and a breeder that didn't understand the true nature of a halfmoon, called it a halfmoon and sold it to Wal-Mart. The likelihood is, though, that it was a delta or a super delta. :) Probably still a great fish, but not likely to be a real half moon.

i only have one female from there and she is definitly a plakat female..thats why she hates stary so much...

I know plenty of LPS and LFS that shouldn't be allowed to sell live animals either. Walmart is no different.

They all hire highschool kids, or adults who have little or no education, to work for cheap wages...and you aren't going to get quality help from someone who hasn't even graduated highschool.

That doesn't mean I think teenagers or people without educations are stupid, because I don't. But I know alot of teenagers and adults think they are mature and responsible..but the fact is 90% of them aren't. And even though they mean well..they aren't capable of handling the responsibility of caring for live animals. Stores realize this but also realize that they work for much cheaper wages then say..a college graduate. And they sell fish and make money regardless.

In a perfect world all stores that sold fish woudl hire knowledgable staff to care for the fish...but let's face it...would you work for $5.50 an hour part-time during peak business hours? I doubt it. But a highschool kid or adult with no "job" skills will...so that's what ends up there. And most times they end up flirting with customers, talking on the phone, or some other something that keeps them from properly taking care of the fish.

So to say so many places need to not sell fish or hire more knowledgable staff...would mean you would have to pay $30+ a fish as opposed to $3.99 if they started hiring people who *knew* how to properly take care of fish. And I don't knwo many peopel who woudl pay that..so the places would go out of business.

Doesn't make it right...but that is the cold hard truth in most cases.

That is why I'm getting a job at Petsmart, to 1) Tell the people they are buying a budgerigar, not a "parakeet" and 2) to take care of the bettas and advise people not to buy the tiny things without tops.

Bettas are gorgeous, amazing fishies... I don't think any of us will argue that. But, the truth is that the MAJORITY of Wal*Marts treat their Bettas horribly, and in the end when you buy fish from them you support that treatment. It is awesome to rescue them, and they all make wonderful pets.. but do I think they're high breeding quality? No.

It's a lot like the pet store puppy arguement... it isn't the puppies's faults, its the horrible mills that breed them and the pet stores that capitolize on their suffering to make a profit.

Also... about the "New Moon" issue. Didn't you recently buy a male from WM that was labeled as a 'New Moon', but you actually found out he was a Delta? New Moon sounds like a name that sellers give them to make them sound more rare and flashy.
