Why Do So Many People...

I think people do just enjoy the challenge, for me it is anyways, i like the spawning technique its lovely to watch, its the beauty of it and what the fry will turn out like

sure its hardwork but its rewarding to watch them grow up, its teh same with any fish, its like an accomplishment

[ps just to join in, i hate the 'omg look at this, isnt it cruel! *points to a 2ltr tub*' yes we all know it is...]

ahem :)

Could you provide some steps for an aspiring breeder? For example, ratio of female to male Bettas and surroundings?

lol. i dont really have anything to say except it made me laugh that you posted that here :) I think its quite refreshing. It was all getting rather serious.

Just really curious and tbh a bit -_-

People think it'd be so "cool" to breed them, but it's so much more complicated than that!!! It's not just about having a lovely male that is so gorgeous it HAS to be bred, and having a spare tank (gee, that'll go far with all those fry that need separating... :shout: ).

Why can't people just enjoy keeping a fish as a pet? Go and breed mollies

Why? The reason is because most of people think it's a quick Dollar/Pound, too which they will fail. It's not an easy job, it takes time, money and space and above all dedication.

I don't agree with people telling people not to try and breed VT's that you by in your LFS though, it's better to start with these, than start with a pair that has cost you £80 say. Then find you loose both for some unknown reason.

Experience is a great teacher, but what realy peas(sp not correct but you get my drift)me off is people not researching before hand and jumping straight into breeding bettas when they have no experience with easier fish.

i dont understand it. its already a very available fish.. and i bet 90% of people that buy them don't know what the hell they're doing. it doesnt make sense to bring more of them into the world.

Its the challenge, Why do people jump out of planes.....Its the challenge.. You wake up one morning and you think.....What should i do today? , you start planning. You start thinking. We would still be living in caves if it wasn;t for the challenge the lives in our hearts.

ok.. but you can breed any type of fish and it'll be a challenge. why try to breed the type that is the most abused in the pet trade? not to mention that its extremely available. i dont think ive been to a single pet store in my life thats running low on bettas.
