Hi all,

Incase your expecting a rant, its not, its just a general 'why?'

If sub-forums such as Buy/Sell/Swap, if someone if looking for something, or selling something, the put 'PM'd' or 'PM'd back', why do it?

No one needs to know..

Sorry to disappoint if you expected something spectacular..

D.

It's because they want people to sit at home thinking, hmm I want to know what's being said.

Well I assume that is their intent, either that or they are desperate to get their post count up.

I was consider just pm-ing you my thought and responding in the topic with 'PM'd'

:D

two things,sometimes you dont want to be missed out,so as you was there first,maybe they didnt notice the p/m in the box,,
maybe there bumping it for some reason or just being polite,, :good:

people really care what their post count is? why is that? do you get special bennefits or something?

When a new post is added to any thread it causes that thread to rise to the top of the list in whatever forum it's in. It's then more visable to members who come to see what's for sale.

You get nothing - some people are just sad, and they think that because they have a high post count, they are a reliable & informative member.

i see. i knew about the threads being bumped by new posting but was unsure if you get some sort of "bonus" or something of the sort (aside from more fishes under your user name). and yeah, as a "newbie" here, lots of people treated me as such to fishkeeping (for which i understand) but i got absolutely bashed by some folks...anywho, thanks for the info.

Remember some folks may turn off pm notifications. If you've pm'd someone about something you want to buy from them, you don't want to miss out because the seller has opted to turn those notifications off, so rather than repeat your entire message for all and sundry, it's just a case of drawing the OP's attention to the fact they have a pm.

As mentioned above, it serves a number of uses:

1) It means others coming to the thread later are aware a potential transaction is occurring and stops them wasting their time and/or hundreds of PMs coming through to the seller after the item is sold;

2) It alerts the seller to the PM if they don't have PM notifications or have missed the notification;

3) If the PM fails to go through it alerts the seller to the potential buyer's interest.

PM's dont always go through, so if the person meant to receive a message knows they have supposed to have gotten a message and it doesn't go through they can let the poster know but still keeps the message private.

I've often noticed that some valid posts goes through to page 10 with 20 read reports & zero response..... Once one person replies to that,....(bumpin it) new responses rains down on that thread & becomes a hot topic within the next 20 Read reports..... Strange (especially if such first reply is by a renowned member)
