OK I have a little story, and hopefully someone will be able to give me some explanation for what happened.
About three months ago I bought 2 pitbull plecos. I put them in my 10 gallon quarantine tank with six diamond tetras. The tetras and the plecs basically ignored each other. The tank has about 1/4 inch of gravel, driftwood, java moss, and hornwort. I removed the largest piece of driftwood a while back because I realized it was beginning to rot and foul up the tank. Around that time, the first pleco died for seemingly no reason. He looked fine, then the next day he was gone. The second one seemed depressed. I noticed red streaks on him, treated with jungle brand Fungus Clear. The pleco really perked up and began eating much better. Not only did he pay more attention to his algae wafers, but also began cleaning algae off of the hornwort. Last week I moved the diamond tetras to another tank, leaving the pitbull temporarily alone. A few days later his activity level went back down, he stopped eating, started hiding, and today when I lifted up the piece of wood he was hiding under to check on him, he was dead. He looked like he had white patches on him. I can't stand dead fish. But why did he die? I can't believe I lost them both. I almost never lose fish. Ugh, if nothing else this is a way to get the story off my chest. I feel so guilty.
