Why Did My Goldfish Die?

the bubbles could be proteins (DOC),which is causing some of the colouring to your water also medication and water treatments can cause it
the protein will come from spawning off both fish ,frogs or from food.....over feeding or high protein foods or even the water source
proteins also cause algae blooms like blanket weed or singlecell algae that can also discolour your water

regular water changes help or a protein skimmer

as for the goldie
she would have had a low immune system as she came out of winter,

she may have got a parasite or damage to the scales in that area and the wound is open to water the bacteria would have took over and caused the ulcer.

the male may have been ready to mate and she would have eggs ready to spawn but if she was feeling ill and exhausted she probably wouldnt have bothered and was trying to conserve her energy,so with the swelling from the ucler and the eggs she may give the impression of being egg bound

ulcers can be caused by poor water quality so make sure nothing has died in the pond or creek if this runs to your pond

fish become stressed in poor water and are suseptable to a wide range of bacteria

I've never put any chemicals in my water before and I do weekly water changes 25-50% and vacuum the gravel very well. The pond just stays dirty I swear, it won't get clean. And the green stringy algea is everywhere, I wipe it daily and it's back. I think I may have to start using chemicals, but I hate to because it isn't natural :shout: . The creek is something I built myself, it goes from a 300 gal pond on top of a hill down 50 feet into my 3000+ gal pond, water is just pumped from my 3000 up and back down etc.

with fish i would strongly suggest buying or building your own filter to help keep the water decent... and a uv for the algae

I already have a filter for my pond build for 3000 gallons. And I have 2 UV lights going.

what type of filter is it and what size of pond is it designed for? sorry you did say 3000g lol

what size pump you got?
you should turn over your pond once evey 2 hours ideally .....water uv media contact time ,it could be the water is getting blasted past the uv so its not sitting there long enough for the uv to kill the algae and the muck is getting blasted through the media and not getting chance to settle in the filter
you may just need to add extra filtering just a diy add on filter will do ,you have the pump ,you have the filter and uv you just need to add another filter that will help remove the fines suspended in the water

when you top you pond and creek up what do you use do you fill from the tap or is the creek filled by natural water source
when did you last change the uv bulbs? as they have a life of 9 to 12 months they will still light up but they stop working as a uv should

is your pond in full sunlight all day

laguna 3200 is the name of it,its designed for up to 3200 gallon ponds. and my pond is 3000 and it has a 25 watt uv light built in

oh right is it a pressure filter

remember you have lots of frogs and these guides do not take that into account so you may only have a few fish but you still have a heavy waste load on you pond, add another filter to your old filter

very nice , yeah my pond is only in the sun from morning until 12 pm, then shade rest of day. I think I am going to add LOTS of sponges of some sort under my bridge which is over my creek, the bridge is built low to the water in the creek so I can stuff lots of sponges up in there, it should help?

hi glad you like it
if you put sponge under the bridge becareful it doesnt get blocked with muck, dont want it causing a blockage that could cause it to over flow the pond
could you not fashion a filter box to add on to your excisting filter
