Why Did He Have These Things In The Box?

Ok the tank I bought the other day have a box with with loads of salifert test kits in etc. He also had a TDS Meter, Bicarbonate of soda and Epson Salts.

Any ideas what these are for?

Last 2 can be used as additives for magnesium and calcium buffering.

They are all used in a lake malawi cichlid setup. Bicarb and Epson salts help raise PH, GH and KH
