Why Buy Fish To Get Rid Of Later When Too Big

I do agree with you... people should find out how big they get...

But to be fair - it's not always there fault.
- Poor LFS advice
- A desire to fill their tank etc. both contribute to this problem. I've done this before (though it wasn't a case of being too big, more a problem of being too aggressive) - It's a little error people make but I don't think there's any need to be nasty to them.

True, but the discussion was not about somebody who hadn't found out the size of the fish, but about people who did know and still wanted to buy the fish to keep for a while. It was not "a little error", that's not the sort of situation this thread was discussing. It seems to be getting side-tracked because a lot of people who have made genuine mistakes feel the need to defend themselves. But if you read the original post, you will find that it was never about those people in the first place. And if you look around the forum, you will probably find that the post who triggered this reaction was from someone who knew perfectly well what they were doing and still did it because they wanted to. So perhaps we should start another thread if we want to express sympathy towards those who have made bona fide mistakes. I for one don't feel I need to apologise for being nasty towards those people when I did my best to make it clear that I was not addressing them in the first place.

just to clear things up this post is about those who chose to buy fish knowing they are going to get big... not people who are badly advise by there lfs ...buying a big fish knowing your going to have to re-home is nuts theres no excuse end of ...i have two staffy puppys i did my reseach before getting them because i wanted to know what they would be like rather than rehome them by not coping... same with fish or anyother pet at the end of the day these thing are living things we offer a home as pets not fashion assesories ''oh ill trade this in cos its so not now'' or ''oh its rather big now time to get rid of'' and one more ''oh it poops to much for my tank'' some people want to get real in life and try a little harder in research before buying......psychobilly

slate me all you want i don't care.....
true very true

I'm a newbie to aquariums. I had this happen to me. I am the proud owner of a 3.5 inch common pleco. I'm sad to say, I wasn't alerted to the fact that he will grow as big as he will when I purchased him. Nor had I done my research. I'm now attached to him, and will likely continue to upgrade tanks for him. Luckily for me, my family is addicted to fish keeping, so it ought not be a problem.
i have not brought a fish that wll out grow my tank but my dad loves whatching the tank instead of the tv and im wanting to get some predetors so he kind of agreed to a tropical pond :hyper:

ive been researching arowana for 1 year know im still learning
im getting one this summer

To me there seems to be a problem with most Cichlid tanks. Won't usually just a handful of the cichlids grow large, pick on or kill the rest? So you can start with 20 smaller cichlids in a tank, and end up with just 3?
