That blob fish lives up to its name alright.

So is it true? The more bristles, the better?

They are small enough for an average tank, friendly, quite visible, a bit odd looking, breed easily, are cheap, do eat a bit of algae now and then....

 Mine is a right little hoodlum, terrorise anyone that goes near him or his food!

I have an albino BN. Very bright colour, and fairly peaceful. Very active (more or less) but don't come between him and his algae discs, he will flare up and try to shove his head into anyone in his way... works out well since he is in a tank of cichlids. I think they are quite cool looking but I guess just with any other pleco produce ALOT of waste. And as mentioned don't get overly big so they make a great tankmate for the avg aquarium.

I don't like the male bristles either, but my female bristlenose is a pretty girl.
Granted, I'm her adoptive 'mum' but, still...

i've wondered the same thing.
at my lfs they must have at least 5 other types of plecos that stay small..maybe they aren't as good of algae eaters as BNs. but i thought Rubblerlip plecos or bulldog plecos were pretty good. and i like them. Don't own any plecos though..not yet anyways.
