i did want a male sienese fighting betta but in all the lfs's i went to they always had torn fins! why i sthat?? they whern't with other males?? :S

are you sure they were torn?? most betta's fins look torn, but aren't because of the way it's shaped. throughout their whole tail there are gaps.

It's hard to explain, I can't think of the right words. LOL!!

bettas have hard lives, especially the ones with torn fins  , but if you buy one who doesn't look so great and give him a nice home, keep his water clean and lots of good food he'll quickly recover and become good as new

shaped like spikes?? hmmm....while I'm a new first time betta owner, does this sound like fish rot to any of you experts out there?? :(

You could have run across a Crown Tail.... their tails do look a bit like spikes.. Most walmart & petsmart betta's are veiltails. There are also..Halfmoons, doubletails...lots of tail choices if you go to the right breeder to find them. Veiltails are basically your "mutt" of the breed

with proper water and lots of love these guys will heal to be beauty's again.
Hope this helped some

Fin rot looks like grey or black edging on the fins, like it's falling off in small chunks

Thanx i should of relised there would be alot of different tail types... also i have heard that if u put feamle with them that the male will kill the female if she doesnt lay any eggs!?!??! and also i havnt seen any female for sale!!!! :S :/

The betta I bought was actually intact. You usually can't find females as much as males for two reasons; first, males are considered more attractive. Two, some people might want to breed them and not take the female out of the tank with the male. The male kills the female after they breed.
