A curiosity question really...

Why are Bettas best? I can see that they are beautiful, but alot of pics I've seen put them in tiny closeted tanks with yukky ugly dividers in....Surely that doesn't show their beauty off very well..so...Why????

(by the way, I have read up about their natural shallow habitats...but i bet they aren't ugly)

The personalities. They have amazing personalities, they bond with you and get to know you. Not only are they pretty, but they are relatively hardy. You don't need to keep them in "ugly" divided tanks, but since bettas really do need to be kept alone, the dividers make it so you don't have to spend thousands on tanks.

Bettas are like potato chips, you can't have just one. :p that is why people feel the need to divide their tanks, like I have done, because it is a NEED to have more, more, more!

most people that keep bettas keep them as pets, not just for aesthetics. So, we like to make them comfy and happy, and this is more important than what the tank LOOKS like.

hope this answers your questions. If you don't believe me, buy one and see how long it takes before you start having betta cravings.

Look through some of the betta pics on here. You won't see any in those tiny little death traps. It's amazing watchig their colors come out after you get them home from the lfs and get them out of that little dirty cup into a tank of no less than 1 gallon with fresh clean water. So many people like bettas cause they each have their own personality, and there is so many different tail types, and colors, and they are pretty easy fish to keep.

yeah but what other fish can you put in the same tank as bettas w/no problems??i've read that you MIGHT be able to have together, but those are "maybe's" and "you might be able to's" are there ANY fish that are compatible w/bettas??

my betta gets jealous when i play with my cats... he flares at them!! and makes me pay attention to him!

With male bettas I do not suggest putting diffrent fish in with them, they are extremely territorial and will rip and kill fish with vibrant fins (lyretails ect.).
But female bettas you can happly have them in your main tank with out any problems, you can also store many female bettas together.

If the female bettas have been kept by thenselves they are often just as aggressive as the males. They can and do kill each other on occasion. People like tham because they are nice to look at and easy to do. In most places they don't need heaters or filters. They can also be kept in small containers without any problems as long as you keep the water clean. This makes them idea for places that a normal tank would not work.

I keep bettas because they are fun and intresting to have. They all have there own personalities and are very pretty colors

I have one male betta that I keep in a 1 gallon bowl. They are just happy attentive little guys and so beautiful with their flowing fins.

They are a hardy little fish and easy to care for.

:)

Bettas are like tiny underwater puppies. Forget about them being pretty.... sure they're pretty, but that's sooooo not the point. They interact with their owners, have their own little personalities, and are absolutely a joy to own. They're very curious and aware of their surroundings both inside and outside of their tank. It's like having a large, personable cichlid such as an oscar, only in a smaller package (and I'm able to say that, since I actually have an oscar :p )

Besides... who could resist their cute little faces and the "feed me" dance??

Couldn't have stated it any better. There is nothing quite like coming into my office after having the weekend off and there are my little guys wiggling and dancing around so happy to see me/food. I could swear that they are smiling when they first see me. :p

:*) Okay, I guess I'm really loosing it now. But I swear, they smile.

Bettas are just great fish. i have read in multiple places that they are the only fish that can reconize their owners. Bettas aren't that expensive! and are beautiful. their tail types and colours are amazing.

You just have to own one at least to feel the magical :wizard: feeling you get when owning a betta fish!

I have heard that oscars recognize their owners too, but bettas are much easier to keep, expecially on a budget.

I loke bettas because of the way they look as well as the way they act. There is very little comparible to bettas for color on the freshwater side of the aisle. Some people prefer cichlids, but I don't really like the shape of a cichlid. Bettas are just plain gorgeous.

As for personality...well...there are of course the typical "I will fight anything' bettas, and they are fun to watch. But you also get the quiet, shy or retiring bettas sometimes. The kind that if they were human would have little cottages by the sea and tend to their gardens rather than pick fights with the neighbors.

There is a betta for everyone. And once you find that betta, you almost always end up getting more.

Haha! I agree. My betta likes to watch me at the computer. And when I turn my head & catch him watching me, he'll startle and get all agitated!
