Whos Got Discus?

Im soon to be upgrading my tank and im interested in Discus. My friend had 3 but 2 died and hes left with jsut one of them. I read there better in a shoal but there a pretty pricey fish, so are they worth it?

i really like them, but dont own any cause of the price and i only own a 10 gallon tank haha.

Discus are the only fish I keep (aside from a Betta.) They are by far my favorite. It does take some effort and time in order to meet their needs and keep them happy and healthy. You will need to be committed and do lots of research if you feel your want to keep these fish. Discus can get pricey, it depends on the size and strain. I have seen smaller common strain Discus in my area for as cheap as $20 ea. If you know how to raise them, you can get small juvys for $5-10 ea. (most will have to be shipped) but it takes LOTS of effort and work growing them out. If price is something you are worried about, and don't have the time to grow out small needy fish, then you may be better off looking at classifieds, Kijiji, even Ebay for Discus. Just something to think about.
