I am in the market for a new filter... seems EVERYONE is telling to avoid Fluval, and pay the bit extra for a Eheim...
Wonder if this is the "Skoda" thing, or are Fluval really that bad/unreliable ????
My way of thinking is, sure you can get a new one under warrantee, but how long would this take (more than a few hours, and the aquarium moves closer to the toilet !) so thats why I am going for a Eheim...
Would be nice to hear the other side of the story though.... :sly:

just bought a eheim 2028,what a beast,3 year gaurantee,£125.cant be bad.

There is nothing wrong with fluvals and unless you want a in built heater (then get a proffessional II thermo edition) or have got money to burn there is no reason to buy ehiem. Both come with three year guarantees and spares are easily available for both. I would not recommend a ehiem classic unless you buy a spare impellor shaft at the same time. Also consider RENA XP they are much improved compared to 2 years ago and easy to use. There are no major differences between the fluval 04 and 05 series the reason for the change is to highlight the series of changes made in the last three years to the 04 series.

:p

My Fluval 304 is fine.

It's an absolute sod to prime, and I mean sod, but it works fine. And it's very good value at £59.99 at Pets at Home.

Theres nuffink wrong with Fluvals! They do their job very well. Three compartments aswell on mine, good for all sorts of stages, and filter materials. Very quiet too. Just not up to the Rena XP's, or the Eheims. My hobby was running on a tight budget until October, and the Fluval fitted in nicely. Not to be sniffed at at the price, and I challenge any Eheim, on a pound for pound basis, to beat it. Theres not an Eheim filter out there at £60 that will beat a well set up Fluval 304. It may well prime more easily.......or not make me swear at it.....or actually not leak when I tilt it over...

Based on filtration capacity alone, at £60, the Fluval has it.

your ready for this...

we have in use....
2x fluval 304s
1x fluval 404
1x fluval 4+
1x fluval 3+
1x fluval 2+

non of them have given he any problems - th e2 304s are nearly 7 years old (i think one is 1998) and i've just replaced the impeller.

This evening I updraded to the connector with the built in taps for ease of swapping them about.
