So I figured, seeing as alot of ppl think that Emperor filters are so awesome, that I would get a couple.....or few.

However, I have heard there a few tricks to them  (media and such) and just wanted to know everyones thoughts on them, besides the opinion that they are the best HOB filter.

Thank you. :D

I have a 400, I used it on my salt tank (fish only) until I got a canister for it and ran them both. I sold that tank and kept the 400 for my sons FW tank. It worked great. they do have different media for them, you can put 2 on each side. I had a sponge type and a carbon on each side.

Thanks for the reply! :D

.....are you saying that you are using a 400 on a 10g?

I must be missing something

oops  I ment to say he will be useing it on his 25g or 30g when he saves half the price of what it will cost. The 10g has a built in filter. :D

I have 2 emperor 400's. I think they are great although i dont liek the media. I have heard the best thing to do is take out the media and stuff it with Aquaclear sponges. Im going to try that.

Freshmike i see that in your sig that you are using Aqua Clear Filters right now. I have Both AC's and an Emperor 400. I bought an Emperor because everybody said that they were great, well if i could go back to when i bought it i would have bought an AC 500. AC's are alot better than emeror filters in my opinion..

Well I guess we will see :p I bought 2 400's and 2 280's....so far from all the reviews I have read, aquaclears don't even compare to the marineland.....

That's not me saying that so don't get mad  I don't even have them yet...heh heh they are in da mail :p

...as for the aquaclear sponge thing, that was kind of the thing I was waiting to hear.....seems like a pretty good thing to do :D

I have just heard so many good things about biowheel filters that I wanted to take some for a run, if I don't like them, I can always sell them :p

More opinions and suggestions please!!

I got a 400 about a month ago and it is working great. The extra internal space for media came in very handy last weekend after spilling a small bit of latex paint in my tank :X

I am liking mine. I had an ammonia spike the other day, threw some chips in the media holder and it read 0 in an hour and a half. I realize we want to avoid spikes but it can get you out of a tight spot.

What did you throw in? One of the Diamond types or just something generic?

White Diamond did the trick. I've been searching for info as to the longevity of the various mediums but not having much luck, Any opinions?

Thank you for all the comments everyone.....still waiting for them to show up....

I wanted to get the 400 for my 10g tank (SW) but it was an inch too wide for the spot it would go in. So, I just went with a Penguine 380.
Kinda supprised you get Eps over pings after all the crud you gave me on the cost of Eheims ;p
