EDITED TOPIC

Ok so I changed my title, I now have my gf's tank set up and its ready for fish but now I need to figure out who to put in it. Everyone is in my tank making its overstocked and my filter may start being over loaded in next 24 hours or so. I need to know who should go in what tank. The Molly is now much more sociable and can be kept with any of my fish now. I would like to keep her, the Platy an 2 AFD in my tank and move the Cory over but is that asking to much of my tank? That comes to 7in(Platy+2 AFD+Molly). I would purchase 2 more Green Cory within the next week but it would be by itself for the time being. And after my 50 gallon is finally ready I will get the Cory in there (could be weeks).

Opinion, The Molly is doing better in my tank then by herself it seems.

live sand is good to reduce cycle time and add good bacteria and such. I wouldnt recomend sand for the cory. they love gravel and its way easier to maintain

I always heard that sand was the way to go for Cory and it was Oto's that could do fine in gravel? or do i have it backwards?

you might br right about the cory and sand. i always use gravel and mine do very well, but then again i love to buck conventional wisdom. lol i tend to do the opposite and it always works out great for me. i love the fish experts!!!

Corys are fine in gravel or sand - personally mine seem happier with sand. The problem is over what kind of gravel you use - if its rounded its fine, if its got sharp edges it can cut their barbels (hope thats the right term.)

As for live sand...I've never had any dealings with it - it wouldn't surprise me if it did something to the pH etc but I'm normal play sand (from argos) is £2.50/15kg bag and looks great.

As for the rest...I'll have a look in the morning, I've had a long day and a couple of drinks so I'm not up to tank juggling right now :)

Hey mwood! :) I haven't seen you on much

Did you get any new fish? :)

Btw, first, what gravel do you use?

no new fish, only dif is Im down to on cory and want to optimize the 2 tanks to fit the most fish comfortably. Hoping that the cory will do fine in there own tank and the wide tank will get rid or the Molly's agressiveness (also has lots of hiding spots.

gravel i use is here

Oh wow, I use the same except mine is brown/grey.

:) You can try play sand. its cheaper, but I stick with crab sand. xD

already got myself an extra bag of sand I just need to know if I should switch to sand and gravel, add the molly to my tank and move the cory (soon to be 3 cory) to the hex tank and from there add some more top fish.

I may also add some extra filtration to either tank.

Also how long do you think I could keep the Molly in the tank with all the others while I converted her tank to sand?

is 11.5 in tall and has 6 6X11.5 panels. Its not very long in comparison but also I will be getting a new tank again soon. When I get my new tank the Cory will go inside and one tank will be just a frog tank.

For now though what I want to know is if the Molly can be put inside of my 5 gallon while i change her tank from a gravel base to a sand base. Also would it be better to place the 3 Green Cory in her tank or my tank after I change her's to sand. Its just one cory at the moment.

Its basicly 2AFD+Platy VS Molly (platy is 2 in and Molly is 3in). I will buy 2 more green cory in next few days as well.

Don't cories do better in sand? Depends if your gravel is sharp or round.

I am putting sand in the Molly's tank, I just need a place for her while i switch it out. and need to know which tank the cory will do best in.

Hi Mwood2 -

Would it be possible to use the gravel where you have your plants (if you have live plants) and use the sand in open areas?

I ask as sand is no good for plants (it compacts and roots find it hard to grow), but it is great for cories.
