Well, I went in a pet store before. Its Aquarian <-- the Fish food's own pet store and they said i don't need to cycle? I don't know what to do!
The manufacturers of AQUARIAN® fish foods don't have their own stores; the name is a coincidence.

a was just thinking that myself unless the store is a registered reseller for the company and is allowed to use the company logo on there sign or something?

dont know but hey all pet stores try to rip you off some how a learned that one very quickly with pets at home

I suspect we have all had what we consider bad experiences at one LFS or another, but to tar all LFS with the same brush is unreasonable. There are some very good suppliers around - the trick is recognising one when you see one - and if you go into a fish shop with the assumption that you'll be ripped off, then you are unlikely to recognise the good ones.

Tell me, Phil and Matt - have you never ever ever made a mistake in your line of work? I think that's highly unlikely, given that you are human, I know I've made mistakes at work. How would you like it if (a) I branded you and your company a money making thieving wotsit, on the basis of human error, and then (b) further claimed that all companies in your industry are out to rip off their customers.

Not all LFS staff are specialist aquarists, obviously they need to make a living, they need to sell their stock - but to claim that they are actively trying to rip people off is unfair.

brand my work a money making thieving wotsit as much as you like i work as a ICT Support Technician at two schools, i have made mistakes its clear that because most Desktop/Server/Networking instillations and setups is trial and error until you get it right. but pets at home is bad it was even named and shamed on this very forum! and many others. and mostly all pet stores do one way or another pets at home tried to sell me 3 different chemical treatments that are never needed in the first place the store knew that and so did i, 3 staff employees of pets at home swore blind on there career that you could keep 2 MALE BETTAS in the same tank together without any partitioning and if you knew anything about bettas the first thing you most likely learn about them is they cant be kept in the same tank together because they will kill each other (without partitioning the tank), i walked into pets at home two weeks ago to get some flake food, and happened to walk past the fish tanks and a good 15+ fish were actually dead, but yet pets at home pride themself on the quality of there live stock and they send there staff on "training courses" (aye aye if they say so) all pets stores are aiming for is to make money one way or another all this world is these days is money money money.

anyways rant over lets not get into a silly argument over pet stores :good:

My LFS is a locally run shop that is run by hobbyists. They steered me wrong a little on compatibility (oops) but because I bought the last fish in that tank, they gave me the media from it. The have never tried to sell me something I was not ready for. In fact, they gave me tons of good advice on how to set up some of my tanks. They are not all bad. You just have to find the right one.

I am proud to say I am very pleased with my LFS.

I'm sorry to say this topic is closed due to the potential legal liability to the forum owner that presents itself when shops are involved in any sort of "name and shame".
