Hi all, have just noticed the dreaded whitespot in my smaller tank. I've read the pinned topic and have a couple of questions...

I haven't got any whitespot medicine in and can't get to the lfs until this evening/tomorrow morning (depending on when oh gets home from work). Should I do a water change now or wait until I get the medicine to do it?

Re the medicine, the topic recommends Interpet No 6 or Waterlife Protozin - either of these ok? (I have cardinals, platies and panda cories in the tank.)

I don't have an airline - is is ok to just make sure that the filter outlet is agitating the water surface (it is anyway).

And, is it transferable to other tanks by using the same equipment. Reason I ask is that I only have one gravel vac - should I get another one or can I sterilise that one somehow before using it again on my bigger tank?

Many thanks!

As you may have read my problems under this link i have tried interpret and it was no good in my 55 gallon tank so went to king british and had to do a double dosage for anything to show it was working, make sure you take out the carbon from filter raise temps as much as the type of fish you have can take, i did water changes same day i added each dose of medication its worked for me

Thanks for your reply - I read your topic after posting, completely wrong way round! Noticed the other good reports of King British - hopefully lfs will have that in stock. I take it is ok for cories?

I'm going to do a small 20% change now and then another one when I get back from the lfs with the meds, hopefully this evening if oh leaves work on time. And I think I'll get another gravel vac while I'm there, really don't want to contaminate the bigger tank. Luckily, when I did the water changes on Sunday, I did the big one first!

The tank with whitespot is 125L (about 33 USG) - how long did the whitespot take to go in your 55G tank?

Me again with another question I've just thought of!

How high should I turn the temp up - I have panda cories in there and I know they don't like it too warm. Other inhabitants are platies and cardinals. And do I need an airline or is it ok to have the filter agitating the surface?

Thanks again!

- I've just done a water change, couldn't see the fish and do nothing for them!
