Yesterday I noticed a few little white worms on the thermometer. I don't really see them in the gravel, but after swishing around in the tank I could see some in the water. Everything I have read leads me to believe it is Planaria, but I also read that the most common cause is from over feeding. So, here's my dilemma. Except for one day about a week and a half ago, the tank has been empty (well sorta..but read on..lol). I had 7 Barbs in there for 2 feedings and then realized that the tank wasn't ready (ammonia @ .50) so I took them back out. Apparently that day gave the barbs enough time to lay/fertilize eggs as I spent yesterday catching 83 fry! (I actually saw the fry 2 days before that) That was so not expected. So, would you say that it's planaria or something else? Any info, and advise to get rid of the worms would be appreciated. Oh, it's a 29g H and right now only has the fry container thing floating in it. Thanks!

My guess would be planaria, but its only a guess. I doubt it is anything to worry about.

They're nothing to worry about. I've had them (well, my tanks have had them) for years with no ill effects. If anything, I see more if I'm overfeeding, and less of them if I'm feeding the right amounts.

v/r, N-A

Also can get them with a high ammonia reading.

1. An aquarist has overfed his/her fish.
2. The aquarium gravel is not hoovered accordingly.
3. Aquarium ammonia levels have risen.

Well, I guess I won't worry too much then. I just wasn't sure what to do as we have been cycling this tank to transfer our daughters fish to a bigger tank and the worms kinda freaked me out. Thanks for the replies!
