Newbie on here. hoping someone can help.
Dec bought new tank, record 70, inclosed filter. Introduced new fish mid jan, few platties. one loach. 2 Weeks later 2 red fin sharks
Two weeks ago two died, checked water etc all ok. next day three dead, treatment for poss parasites etc, small water change 25%, end of week all except one little loach dead.
Poss cause suggested nitrate poisening. All checked all ok. PH good, No fungus, fin rot, nothing. suggested filter not matured. Now in last week or so have hundreds of revolting little white worms in tank, just one fish remaining who sits on side of tank. worms not segmented, no hairs, no egg sacks (except one very long one, scooped out since) others about inch long. Free swimming. looks like dog hairs? Treatment now using is Sterazin, for control of gill flukes and internal worms. 5 treatments over 10 days at intervals. in order to catch at life cycles of worms. Third treatment yesterday (day 6) 2 treatments to go and there now seems to be more worms than ever. Have removed Carbon filter and also introduced filter boost day before third treament as (advised by store) The loach is hanging on but he has placed himself around the corner from filter where water pushing worms away. They dont appear to want to get to him and no signs of any attachments. Although one did appear to disappear into his head yesterday? not sure was so quick. I am at a loss/ has anyone any ideas or can suggest a more powerful remedy? Feel I need to start again, but will I ever get rid of worms or would they lay dormant? Used to keeping fish several years ago, never seen this before at all. :(

I treating my fish at the moment with the same med for worms and gill flukes I too nearly at the end of the coursethere not worms from over feeding are they.

No definately not overfeed, I have used wafers for loach but he hardly eats at all, the bits I see anyway. The water has many changes and cleaning up, no left over foods, so nothing for the worms to eat! I have taken all plants, rocks, etc out. Tank empty without exception of fish and filter!
Is your tank infected in the same way, ie has small worms? and did you lose any fish at all before these were seen with the eye. It could be in my case the deaths and worms were not connected, but I really dont know. Also have any of the worms been killed with your treatment yet?
